STEP 1: Download the ISO File

STEP 2: Make the USB bootable

Now we will make the USB bootable by using the tool in Linux Mint “USB Image Writer”, you just have to select pen-drive and where you have downloaded the ISO file.

And click on Write image. Other than this we have many tools to make the USB bootable like Power ISO, Rufus.


STEP 3: Install Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

So plug the USB and boot the system, press the BIOS key as per your system brand or you can directly boot from to install Ubuntu via function keys.

So, choose the installation language and click on “Install Ubuntu” .


STEP 4: Choose the keyboard layout

So by default the keyboard layout has been selected to “English(US)” you can select the layout of your choice and will click on “Continue”.

Updates and other software

So“normal installation” has the desktop version and have media players, games, office and other utilities and “Minimal installation” is like the server with GUI.

So we are selecting “normal installation”, with the other options to be checked only if you have the internet connection. Click on “Continue”


STEP 6: Select the Partition type on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

If we will select on Erase disk and install ubuntu, it will delete all the data so just be careful while choosing the first option.

And if we select the option “Something else” then we have to create the partition as required, Suppose have to create the partition as LVM, or want to give more size to any particular partition, then we have to select the second option.

Just select the “Erase disk and install ubuntu” and click on Continue.

Write the changes to disks

It will ask to format the partitions, whether we have to “Go Back” or “Continue”. As the created partitions are fine so click on “Continue”


STEP 7: Select the Timezone

So I have selected the timezone as “Kolkata” which is the part of India, you can select your timezone and click on “Continue”


STEP 8: Fill the login details

So on this screen create the user, give the password for that user and put the hostname of the system which is your compute’s name. Once you fill all the details click on “Continue” .

NOTE: That the created user will have admin rights, as we have created a user “tastethelinux” . So this will be the superuser.


STEP 9: Installation Started for Ubuntu 20.04 LTS from USB.

So the installation process has been started, just wait to finish the installation, it will ask for the reboot.

Restart the System

Once this pop-up window will come, so we have done with the installation click on “Restart Now” and use the Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

Login screen

This is the Login Screen for Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, just login into the system and run some commands to confirm the Ubuntu version and code-name.

After login

So you can search a terminal on the side bar and run the command “lsb_release -a” for the release details.
